Distinctive Space | “The Path to Success” 2016

Design is a way to show people’s attitudes toward life. The design of space is a connection between mankind and space and can reflect designers’ understanding of life. Through the award-winning products 2016, we can see the designers’ interpretation of their lives.

Life's existence and tranquility are felt immediately when a human is added to the picture.

When a design prioritizes nature and is well blended into the environment, the context and culture displayed by the materials and the layout generate a voice that can only be seen and not heard, making one feel relaxed and joyous.

Craftsmanship and refined taste of the chair and table are carefully nested in the contextual dialogue between rocks and wood and can be discovered when light is shone onto the surface. Purity and tranquility are inserted, through tangible and intangible expressions, in life's very basic comforts.

The materials used in the process of designing are less than that needed for basic living. Material features are well used, so that they correspond to the environment and deliver warmth and comfort. The strategy of adding by subtracting reflects a way of living that seeks to remain aloof from worldly affairs.

HISUSHI, after years of development, has established its own distinct image in dining fashion. The Lake Store is the turning point in this natural tide. At HISUSHI, quality is clearly and naturally communicated to guests through simple ingredients, flavors, and service.

This is implemented in practice by having the veneer as a substrate of the overall texture. These direct and traditional Japanese elements have an air of light and timelessness. Beyond the background, the second layer uses a traditional Japanese-style blue and white pattern covering the front of the space and creating a contrasting, but not jarring visual effect. Combining these two moderate elements brings about a subtle tension of the story that, along with Katsushika Hokusai's ukiyo-e, gives rise to this space's singular imagery.

The protagonist of the story, and the soul of the store and the rotary tables, is the courageous night fishing boat, brightly lit and full of vitality. We deliberately chose chandelier lamps bearing a similar style that highlight numbers in a sequential manner, with the area above the bar full of chandeliers whose jet black metal frames and iron nets exude the beauty of simplicity.

Our branch in Neihu is a new try and an indicator of freedom. Complicated craftsmanship may create an instant visual shock, but time will degrade it. However, the essential materials can last for a fairly long time. When we inject enough time, space into our materials, they will tell us simple but profound stories lingering in our minds.

The design program consists of two themes “contrast” and “integration”, aiming to explore how “contrast” can be evolved into “integration”.

Contrast Everything that exists in the world contains two sides, the “contrast” and the “integration”. They are mutually contradictory, but can enjoy mutually harmonious coexistence. This is the law of the nature.

Integration Integration is achieved by combining two opposite elements to make an intact unit

Indoor function The completed integrated architecture can also reflect the three main functions of indoor space, i.e. display, sale and attracting investment.

Design: Ching Chi Architecture Co., Ltd.

Ching Chi Architecture embraces a philosophy of "existential design", a term coined by the company. Design is executed in the four dimensions of temporal memory, natural imagery, variable stages, and light and shadow.

The resort is located in the core commercial area of Taichung City in Taiwan. The topography of the site is not square and regular. The two entrances leading to the streets, in particular, offer completely different views.

The whole project is centered on the concept of marketing real estate through the adoption of a life culture philosophy. The spatial layout is therefore characterized by an open outdoor space featuring a clock tower that is linked to a multifunctional indoor performance hall. Multi-functional kitchen and dining spaces, an open library space and a small outdoor garden round out the architectural design.

The building complex resembles a big frame containing a large number of small boxes. Each box has its own function and purpose. The boxes give access to vision and light through various openings, while bridging the virtual space between the Boxes.

The main concept development of this project is to create a deeper sensual stimulation, aesthetic awareness and cultivate spirituality in addition to satisfying the taste buds through unlimited design techniques to sketch the contours of environment and layout.

Deliberately understated gray exterior appearance of the building is like a stone defense wall of a castle, the arcade on the leading edge and winding corridor implement the romantic composition of Classical gardens of Suzhou, China, and floating island waterscape is arranged between the corridor and the main building, gently showing the metaphor of endless interests under the pen of a poet.

The interior space subverts the universal form on the impression of a restaurant, using the clean vocabulary from the East such as the huge golden Buddha hand, Buddha head, elegant floating candles and incense which blending a both quiet and calm atmosphere of the space, from time to time, there is dense fog of water mist drifting in the air, carefully creating a theme of space which hormonally combines delicious hotpot cuisine and magical atmosphere.
