The Path to success

Message from the Curator

“The pursuit of superlative design brings you success” has been the eternal philosophy spread from Red Dot Design Award to the young designers and companies for over 60 years. This philosophy is now extended in our "China Good Design" (CGD) Award.

The CGD jury members, as the top design figures of their own countries and jurors of international design awards organized by Red Dot, will gather from various countries and regions around the world annually. They select around 100 excellent designs from thousands of entries.Only the winners will be awarded with the honor of "China Good Design".

The logo of "China Good Design" Award is represented by the "Eight Diagrams" of Chinese traditional culture and philosophy concept. This logo delivers a message – designs which not only meet the Chinese aesthetic needs but also fit into their culture genes will definitely be the most successful ones in the Chinese market.

On the stage of "China Good Design" Award Ceremony, the G-shaped road inspried by the logo is called as “The Path to Success”. Each winner,    when walking on this path amidst the applause, will be awarded with CGD certificates and trophies by the jurors. Through this process, they will be able to realize the philosophy of “the unique path to success”, which is “the pursuit of superlative design brings you success”.

“Design for future” is the theme of the first session of Shenzhen Design Week. For Chinese designers of our generation, the word “future” is more or less filled with optimism. In the era where financial crisis is spreading and the price advantage is losing; where enterprises and governments are heading for the transformation of innovation and value, we need designs, especially problem-solving designs more than in any other times.

We realized that the China Good Design winners have been trying to solve the problems in China. They have been dealing with problems between mental culture and material consumption; serving more people with higher-quality designs; changing the bored visual environment with sophisticated designs; helping the Chinese people enjoy the leisure oriental life under the stress of global competitions.    Their creative works are not only professional, but also deep-going.  Based on the oriental philosophy and upholding the international standards, these designs interpret the connotation of “China Good Design”.

Now, we bring these designs to Shenzhen, wishing to communicate with all the professionals of design industry. Let us embrace the challenges ahead together.

Meditation Seat Ware

Manufacturer: KUKA

Designer: Gao Fenglin

This is an original and novel piece of furniture. It explores a new sitting posture from an ergonomics point of view to help users sit at ease in a cross-legged position. The ancient Chinese used to sit cross-legged in meditation to integrate the body into an organic whole for better concentration, in pursuance of enlightenment on a spiritual plane. On the basis of these cultural traits and habits of oriental philosophy, the design of the Meditation Seat Ware was conceived in the hope that it can help the users maintain the energy of the body through maintaining good posture. This allows the users to contemplate the ancient oriental way of life, re-examine the meaning of life and impact exerted on cultural traits and habits of users. Though Meditation Seat Ware has no backrest, research on ergonomics suggest that sitting in this position, the spine is naturally upright and relaxed, allowing the user to relax, and maintain in a state of inner peace. Although modern people are still used to sitting cross-legged, there is still a lack of corresponding furniture, Meditation Seat Ware fills the gap.

Grace Armchair

Manufacturer: Shenzhen ZiZaiJia Science and Technology Co., Ltd, China

Designer: In-house Design

10065058534c3a7c29aQCXtlC.jpg

Grace Armchair is a new interpretation of Chinese round-backed armchair by giving up its original masculine solemnity while applying modern design language to indicate its feminine softness. Compared with traditional round-backed armchairs, Grace Armchair is smaller in size, softer in lines, gentler in details and more graceful in appearance, thus giving people a more amiable feeling. The improved size and shape matches better with the size of modern living spaces and is also easier to move.

In order to create a continuous smooth line of the chair seat to legs, it uses Chinese traditional tenon craft which is a comparatively difficult technique requiring pure craftsmanship. The outward tilting seat as well as the shape of side and back improves the seating comfort by pursuing comfort and perfection in details.
